Album Description

‘Raising Questions’ is the debut EP from Singer/Songwriter Matt JR Hurley, a young man who has been through some trying situations in the last few years. The theme of the whole of ‘Raising Questions’ is exploring how we face and react to the tough questions and situations that life can and does throw at us. Matt explores life, faith and his trust and belief in God through all of these types of circumstances and situations.

The songs are all formed around his delicate acoustic guitar and are grounded in a folk/roots feel.  There is a definite versatility in the EP ranging from folky choruses such as “Shout to the Sky” and “Spinning Circles” through to pop like sounds found in “My Soul Sings”. The EP also includes Matt’s debut single, “Pebbles” (which we aggregated earlier in the year) a beautiful ethereal track built around the theme of loss. The EP closes with “The Promises of Redemption and Hope” a track set to a gentle driving march, that makes the point that Matt believes that whatever we encounter in life there is an eternal promise of something more for everyone to hold on to.

It’s powerful storytelling and real earthy testimony and experience. With a maturity beyond his years, when you listen to these songs it’s hard to believe that Matt only started songwriting seriously last year!
