Album Description

Andrew Cleaton is an accomplished songwriter, composer, producer and pianist based in North Yorkshire, UK.  Whether writing contemporary hymns and songs for congregational worship, crafting intimate pieces for solo piano or producing expansive, multi-layered soundscapes, Andrew fuses his classical training with a love for folk, rock, jazz and world sounds to create music that is accessible, melodic and thought-provoking.

This album represents a return to Andrew’s first musical love – the piano. HOPE is a collection of new solo piano recordings. Drawn from across 30 years of his composing, these accessible, melodic pieces are highly personal reflections on hope, faith and light in darkness. Some of the pieces are very recent and were really only finalised during the recording process, others date back longer than he cares to remember!

In contrast to much of Andrew’s recent production work, which has dealt with layers of sound, dense arrangements and a quest for perfection (whatever that might mean), with this recording he has attempted to strip away extraneous details and present the music in its rawest, most authentic and organic form – in single takes, free from the tyranny of the click track!
